LATEST ACQUISITION FOR TETI LIBRARY – PLAYING WITH TYPE BY LARA MCCORMICK

Lara McCormick, Chair of the Graphic Design Department at NHIA, is the author of this wonderful new book, Playing with Type: 50 Graphic Experiments for Exploring Typographic Design Principles. This book can be found in the Teti Library and is a helpful resource for typographical projects.

SAVE THE DATE – LETHAL BEAUTY – SAMURAI WEAPONS AND ARMOR COMES TO THE CURRIER MUSEUM OF ART

The Currier Museum of Art opens their latest exhibition, Lethal Beauty – Samurai Weapons and Armor on Saturday, February 2, 2013.  The show curated by Andreas Marks, the Director and Chief Curator of the Clark Center for Japanese Art & Culture, boasts swords, helmuts, armor and other hand-forged weaponry from the 13th through 20th centuries.   Additional works such as delicately painted Japanese screens, masks and warrior hats will also be included in the show.   Enter the link above to catch a glimpse of a short video clip preview of the exhibition.

GRAPHIC ADVOCACY EXHIBITION AT MASS ART

Massachusetts College of Art and Design will be hosting Graphic Advocacy: International Posters for the Digital Age 2001–2012, through March 2, 2013 and NHIA has scheduled a tour with the show’s curator for Friday, February 1st. VARIATIONS OF PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

The Atlantic Wire, reports that today marks the 200 year anniversary of Jane Austen’s Pride and PrejudiceThe Wire highlights the different cover designs created for the title over the years.  Take a look at both the lovely book covers and unique designs on each.   (The Teti Library owns the DVD, Pride and Prejudice, as well as many other love stories in our Romance Collection DVD set.)

EYE GALLERY TO OPEN MT. WASHINGTON WORKSHOP 2012, ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 29

Works by NHIA students from the Mount Washington Summer Workshop, 2012 will be be on display at the Eye Gallery during January 29th through February 15th.  The show includes color and black & white photographs as well several oil paintings all focusing on the beauty of Mt. NH SNOW SCULPTORS – TAKE NOTICE

The Black Mountain Ski Resort in Jackson, NH will host a NH Sanctioned Snow Sculpting Competition this Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26th. This is the Resort’s 12th annual snow sculpture event and amateurs and professionals of any age are eligible to compete in the Overall and People’s Choice Awards.  Contact the Resort for additional information at (603) 383-4490.

BRUCE DAVIDSON – EAST 100TH STREET

The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston opens Bruce Davidson – East 100th Street, a photography exhibition featuring Davidson’s images of Harlem in the 1960s. The show runs from January 19, 2013 to September 8, 2013 in the MFA’s Gallery 335.  The Teti Library owns two editions of Davidson’s book, East 100th Street in both the Special and Main Collections.
